| Tips for Hiring a Roofing
Contractor |
 |
When you obtain
more than one bid or proposal, be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Some
estimates may be lower due to the use of a lower quality shingle and material.
Some material may be reused instead of replaced.
Ask about insurance.
Our company carries worker's compensation insurance. Be sure you are supplied
the name of the agent you can verify the insurance with. Insurance
information can be obtained from Crossroads Insurance Agency, 828-324-2891 for
Hipps & Son Roofing Co., LLC.
Ask for references. We can provide
references from building contractors that use our services and residential
customers we have installed a new roof for. Ask friends and associates for
names of roofing contractors they have had satisfactory dealings
with.
Find out how long the company has been in business. Our company
has been in business since 1989. The President of the company, Norman Hipps,
has over 35 years experience in the roofing industry. If you have a problem
after the job has been completed, can you find the person or company three to
six months later? Better still; can you get them to resolve your problem? As
stated, we have been in business since 1989. If there is a problem, we will be
there to correct it.
Try to minimize the deposit you pay to the
contractor prior to the start of the work or delivery of materials. When we
begin the job, we stay on the job until it is completed. Depending on the
length of time needed to complete the job, a weekly draw of funds may be
necessary, but should not exceed what has already been completed of the
job.
Find out if the company you wish to deal with handles obtaining all
material and cleanup of debris, or if this is left up to the homeowner (or
association). Too many times, a homeowner is faced with having to worry about
ordering the supplies, dealing with the delivery and then arranging to have the
debris from the torn off roof removed from their premises. Our company takes
care of getting all material, and cleaning up and hauling away all roof debris
as the job is in progress. Once completed, the grounds are swept with a
powerful magnet to avoid leaving nails, and again cleaned of any remaining
debris.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have of the
contractor and get a satisfactory answer. We are happy to take whatever time
necessary to satisfy any questions you may have regarding the estimate and/or
your roof. |
